Beating the Odds

There is always one man in a girl's heart that she will love forever from the day she is born, her father.  Six years ago today, I was home when my dad suffered a massive heart attack.  It was one of the scariest times in my life.  He was in the hospital for weeks and it didn't look good.  At one point, after months of hospital visits the doctors recommended hospice.  All I could think was, "What would I do without my dad?"  However, with our Faith and many prayers, my dad's will to fight, and some really great doctors, my dad recovered and continues to keep making sure to stick around.  It wasn't easy, especially for him, but he had a lot to look forward to...two grandsons and now a granddaughter on her way.  It wasn't easy for my mom either, who is a rock.  She's been through a lot in her life with losing a brother and a son, but she always managed to take care of my dad, work, and stay strong for us.  As I've gotten older, I've admired her strength and I can only hope to share that with my daughter.  I love you mom and dad and Baby Mavrakis can't wait to meet you!
